Description
Constantin Schneider (1889-1945) served as a general staff officer during the First World War, first on the Eastern Front and from 1915 in Italy on the Isonzo and the Piave. At the end of the war, he and his unit were taken prisoners of war in Italy, from which he returned in 1919. The handwritten version of his war memoirs consists of three volumes, some of which were written during his captivity and some after his return from Italy.
Their special source value lies on the one hand in their detailed description of the war events and on the other hand in the fact that due to his military position the author had direct contact with many prominent personalities, including the later Austrian Federal President Theodor Körner.
