These 40 uniform plates reproduced by Manfred Fürst and Gerd Mönninghoff show a remarkable selection of uniforms and flags of the Brandenburg/Prussian army. Starting with the year 1620, through the founding phase of a standing army with uniform uniforms around 1640, to 1713, the year of the death of the first king in Prussia. The names, origins and whereabouts of the unit, its uniforms, as well as field insignia at various times, are presented in keywords.
The compiled findings come from a large number of historical documents. The sources for the pictorial representations were, in addition to the few real objects in museums, contemporary illustrations such as paintings, engravings and illustrations.
The evaluated texts come from the research of well-known military historians such as Curt Jany, Carl Kling, Richard Knötel, Ewald Fiebig, Reinhold Redlin, Martin Lezius, George Adalbert von Mülverstedt and others.
The regiments include: Hildebrand Kracht, Electress Dorothea, Margrave Philipp-Wilhelm v. Brandenburg, Dönhoff, Schwerin, Leibgarde, Anhalt-Dessau, Trabantengarde, Schweizer Garde, Landmousquetaires zu Fuß, Dragoon Artillery, Count Dohna, Spaen, Kurland, v. Derfflinger Belling, v. Rochow, Prince Heinrich v Sachsen etc.
