The flight of thousands of Prussians and Saxons in the autumn of 1806, following the disaster at Jena and Auerstedt, lasted three weeks and unfolded between Saalburg and Prenzlau, and further west as far as Lübeck and Ratekau. There were numerous small skirmishes and engagements. Considering that after that October 14th, the soldiers sometimes covered over 400 kilometers on foot, without prepared supplies, under poor leadership, in the cold, and always with the French on their heels, it was a remarkable feat. In most places, the memory of it has simply been lost. Consequently, there isn't nearly as much literature about it as there is about the major battles. But enthusiasts around Stefan Hückler have done pioneering work in recent years to combat this forgetting.
