Emperor Napoleon I visited Leipzig five times between 1807 and 1813. Of particular importance was his last stay in the city between 14 and 19 October 1813. These were the days of the great Battle of the Nations near Leipzig. Half a million soldiers faced each other. Napoleon commanded 191000 soldiers with 700 guns. In his tried and tested manner, he led his troops into battle alone. The author attempts to reconstruct these decisive days in the life of the Emperor, in the history of Leipzig and in Europe, as completely as possible, using documents, records and accounts of his experiences. By practically "nipping at the Emperor's heels", he also has to confront a number of legends.
