Editing a treatise of the Prussian struggle against Napoleonic France seemed at first to make little sense. This topic has been dealt with too often for over 200 years. Nevertheless, this book serves as a building block for the series on the Allies against France. Based on memoirs of Prussian soldiers, the book first describes the period from 1806 to 1812.

In doing so, contemporary witnesses recall the battles of Jena/Auerstedt up to the Peace of Tilsit, through the army reform and Schill's attempted insurrection in 1809 to the end of the alliance with Napoleon in 1812. A second volume (article no. 5/11215) covers the years 1813 to 1815.
