Made by Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg, or MAN for short, one of the world's leading truck manufacturers, the Support Vehicles (SV) truck fleet replaced a number of outdated Cold War-era types in the British armed forces. The introduction of the SV fleet began in 2007 and includes transport vehicles with payloads of 6, 9 or 15 tonnes, tankers and recovery vehicles. The more than 7,000 SV trucks include all-terrain (Medium Mobility - MM) based on the MAN HX truck series and those with improved off-road mobility (Improved Medium Mobility - IMM) based on the MAN SX truck series. Today, trucks of the SV family can be found in almost all units of the British Army and Royal Marines, as well as in services of the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. In the meantime, they have also proven themselves in action, for example with British troops in Iraq in the course of Operation Telic or in Afghanistan in the course of Operation Herrick. This is the first comprehensive documentation on German MAN trucks in service with the British armed forces.
