The 2nd (BR) Infantry Division, headquartered in York, England, was the largest British division during the final phase of the Cold War and had an important task: to reinforce the British Army of the Rhine in the event of a crisis. The division's first regular units could be deployed to mainland Europe within 24 hours of an impending attack. They would be followed by units of the Territorial Army. The division was fully operational in Germany within ten days at the latest to secure the rear corps area of the BAOR. This contingency was practiced at Keystone 87. Both the Blue and Orange exercise forces included powerful German units such as the 53rd Home Guard Brigade, the 1st and 5th Armored Reconnaissance Battalions, and the 14th Armored Battalion. This publication shows impressive photos of the British and German vehicles used in Keystone 87.
