During the Thirty Years' War, Protestant troops under Count Mansfeld met an imperial army under Wallenstein at the Battle of Dessau on 25 April 1626 and were defeated by the latter.
The Battle of Dessau was one of the highlights of Mansfeld's involvement in the Danish War. His army was routed, but not the commander's energy - two months later he launched the challenging campaign to Silesia and Hungary. For Albrecht von Wallenstein, however, the victory achieved here was his first great success on the battlefield, a milestone in his career.
