The Cromwell was well balanced in firepower, armour and speed. Armed with a 75 mm gun and two heavy machine guns, it had the same firepower as numerous variants of the Sherman.
Sufficient firepower for most tasks, the Cromwell also had to rely on its speed and manoeuvrability to avoid a direct duel with the larger German tanks. Larger Verbände of the Cromwell usually had support from a Sherman Firefly to keep the German "Großkatzen" away!
