The baucent or baussant is the banner of the Order. Baucent means divided into two parts - whiteß and black, just as the Templars' mantles were black or whiteß depending on the class of Brüder. Whiteß stands for purity and chastity, black for strength and courage, according to Jacob of Vitry.
The Templars' battle cry was "au BeaucÃant".
The word "BeaucÃant" probably comes from the Latin "posco/poscere", to challenge, to fight. It was transferred into French übertragen and became alienated and adapted over time. Finally, the banner was also called "BeaucÅant". A signal that once hoisted always meant fight to the last.
The knight who carried the banner in battle had a heavy responsibility, which fünf to ten knights shared with him.
