Günter Prien, U-Boat Commander

Günther Prien (* 16 January 1908 in Osterfeld; Ä frühestens on 7 März 1941 in the North Atlantic, südlich von Island) was a German naval officer and U-boat commander. Due to his military successes, he was considered an ideal war hero for National Socialist propaganda. He became famous mainly because of the successful attack on Scapa Flow, the home port of the Home Fleet and an important British war port in the history of the German navy since 1919, on 14 October 1939.
