Procured from 1958 by the then still very young Bundeswehr, almost 20,000 of the MAN 630, which was specially developed for the needs of the troops, were purchased over the years. The 5-tonner, which was always all-wheel drive, was equipped with a 136 hp multi-fuel engine with a displacement of 8.275 litres. This all-terrain vehicle was used both in the 630 L2A version with dual tyres and as the 630 L2AE with single tyres for a wide variety of tasks.
