After the VW Beetle had become very outdated at the beginning of the 1970s, its successor, the VW Golf, was launched in spring 1974. Initially offered with both 50 and 70 hp, the VW GTI, which is still considered the forefather of sporty compact saloons today, followed in 1975. Its 110 hp 1.6-litre injection engine and the driving performance associated with it made the GTI the dream and cult vehicle of an entire generation. Schuco has dedicated a 1:87 scale miniature model to the VW Golf, with both the body and chassis of the 1:87 edition models being made of metal. In addition to the prototypical wheel rims, the Schuco 1:87 models are characterised by numerous loving details.
