On 20 May 2022, this C-17 Globemaster was christened Spirit of the Candy Bomber in honour of retired Colonel Gail Candy Bomber Halvorsen and his service in the Berlin Airlift 1948-1949 in the presence of his family. Gail Halvorsen became famous when he made small parachutes filled with sweets during the Berlin Airlift and dropped them for children from his Douglas DC-54 as it approached Berlin.
