The takeover of US Airways in 1998 also increased the number of predecessor companies that formed today's American Airlines. Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA), founded in 1949 in San Diego, California, called itself the "friendliest airline in the world" and underlined this with a hint of a smile on the bow of its "Smileliner". American Airlines recently transferred the retro livery already introduced by US Airways to this Airbus A321. This new addition complements the A319s already produced by two other predecessor companies, Piedmont Airlines and Allegheny Airlines. The small series of American Airlines Heritage liveries will continue.
