The mammoth was one of the hunting animals of Palaeolithic man. Mammoths are the extinct genus of elephants that occurred with different species in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. The last representatives became extinct only about 4000 years ago on Wrangel Island in the Siberian Arctic Ocean.
