Early Diadochian period, elephant with Greek crew.
The Diadochi were commanders of Alexander the Great and their sons who, after his unexpected death in 323 BC. After Alexander's unexpected death in 323 BC, the Diadochi and their sons divided the Alexander Empire among themselves and fought each other with changing alliances in a total of six Diadochi wars.
The terms Diadochi and Epigones were coined in historical scholarship by Johann Gustav Droysen. He referred to as diadochi only those army leaders who fought for power immediately after Alexander's death, whereas epigones were the subsequent generations of Hellenistic kings. -Wikipedia-
