Description
Friedrich Wilhelm Ludolf Gerhard Augustin von Steuben, also known as Baron Steuben (born 17 September 1730 in Magdeburg, died 28 November 1794 in Utica, New York) Steuben was a Prussian officer in the Frederician army. In 1777 Steuben met the American ambassador in Paris, Benjamin Franklin. On Franklin's recommendation, he went to North America and was Chief of Staff of G.Washington's army during the American War of Independence. Even today, the annual "Steuben Parade" in New York (USA) commemorates this general.
