J.S. Bach received a theme from Frederick II to improvise on. After returning to Leipzig, Bach worked out the theme in 3 and 6 voices. He dedicated one print of the "Musical Offering" to Frederick the Great, noting that it was a "truly royal theme" that Frederick had given him. The series includes the following personages: Bach, seated at the Silbermann grand; Frederick II; J.J. Quantz (Frederick II's flute teacher); Frau Benda; C.P.E. Bach.
