The idea for this series was the: "Royal Lion Hunt" is the name given to three reliefs from the palace of the Neo-Assyrian king Assurbanipal in Nineveh, Mesopotamia. They are now in the British Museum in London.
The Lion Hunt is an alabaster relief, only 65 cm. high, depicting the ruler on horseback hunting. The ruler stabs an attacking predatory cat with a lance.
The dramatic scene is beautifully rendered in figurative form.
The Assyrian Empire was a state of the so-called Ancient Near East originating in northern Mesopotamia, also known as Mesopotamia. It existed over a period of about 1200 years, from the beginning of the 18th century BC until its destruction around 609 BC.
