The wild horse (Equus ferus) is a species of the genus Equus, which includes as subspecies the modern domesticated horse (Equus ferus caballus) as well as the undomesticated tarpan (Equus ferus ferus, now extinct), and the endangered Przewalski's horse (Equus ferus przewalskii). Przewalski's horse had reached the brink of extinction but was reintroduced successfully back into the wild. The tarpan became extinct in the 19th century, though it is a possible ancestor of the domestic horse; it roamed the steppes of Eurasia at the time of domestication. -Wikipedia-
Also called tarpan:
The tarpan (Equus ferus ferus) is the extinct western form of the Eurasian wild horse. It was widespread west of the Urals (especially in the southern Russian steppes) and disappeared in the course of the 19th century at the latest. Sometimes the species is subdivided again into the variants forest tarpan and steppe tarpan.
Also called Prewalski's horses:
The Przewalski's horse (Equus ferus przewalskii) Asian wild horse or Mongolian wild horse was previously thought to be the only subspecies of wild horse that has survived in its wild form until today. A publication in the journal Science in 2018 shows that Przewalski horses are Botai horses that went feral around 5000 years ago.
