Robinson Crusoe

Our hero was born in York, in 1632, the son of a merchant from Bremen. His mother was a née Robinson. He was given the first name Robinson after her and was thus called Robinson Kreutzner. But because the English often disfigure such words, which they can pronounce badly, they called him Crusoe.
Robinson is supposed to become a lawyer, but that is not for him, he prefers to go to sea. He leads an adventurous life before a shipwreck finally lands him as the sole survivor on a lonely South Sea island (ca. 1650). He is able to salvage various items of equipment from his sinking ship and settles on the island. This is occasionally visited by cannibals, and he rescues a savage who later becomes his friend and servant and is called Friday by Robinson Crusoe.
In the end, Robinson is found after all. He discovers an English ship anchored off the island while a dinghy is approaching the coast.
But the fact is that the ship has been mutinied and there are three prisoners in the dinghy, the captain, the helmsman and a passenger, who are to be abandoned on the island. But Robinson is just a guy of the ball and chain: he comes to the aid of the exiles. Together they overpower the mutineers and Robinson can finally leave the island and return to England after 28 years, 2 months and 19 days, on 19 December 1686.
