The newly cast pewter figures and decorative parts are lightly sanded with fine steel wool, then patinated. To do this, apply the patina with a soft brush on all sides. Make sure that the patina does not run off the pewter part, therefore move the brush on it until the pewter object is covered with an even shade of grey/black. Then hold under running tap water and stop the oxidation. After drying, the surface can be rubbed again with steel wool in the areas that should appear lighter. To preserve the colouring, the part can be carefully painted over with a brush coated with oil to protect it.
