Production of the KV heavy tanks armed with a 76 mm gun began at the Leningrad Kirov Plant (LKZ) in February 1940 - over 5.000 KV-1´s were built until 1943. This tank embodied the most advanced ideas of the time: individual torsion bar suspension, strong armor against enemy fire , which resulted in a total weight of 45 tons A 600 hp diesel engine combined with a powerful universal gun, which allowed firing both at enemy tanks and their field fortifications, artillery and troops made it to one of the most effective fighting vehicles of that time.
