The author Stefan von der Heide, born in 1959, acquired the foundations for his current work during his training as an orthopaedic shoemaker. Soon after passing his master shoemaker's examination in 1993, he created his first reconstructions of historical shoes. For several years now, his workshop has been located in a craftsman's workshop in the picturesque courtyard of the Old Castle in Neustadt an der Aisch.
