Cossacks were communities of free equestrian associations formed by volatile Russian and Ukrainian serfs, sometimes just adventurers or otherwise detached, in the Südian steppe regions. The name Cossack comes from the Turkic languages and roughly means free warriorô. It is etymologically, but not substantively, related to the Kazakhs. No longer contemporary is the view that the Cossacks are the descendants of the Cumans, who lived in what is now Ukraine even before the Mongol invasion. -Wikipedia-
