From Lützen, where Wallenstein had stayed behind with Holk and probably with all the regiments destined for Leipzig, Count Rudolf Colloredo was sent with 300 men on the morning of 5(15)11.1632 to occupy the town and castle of Weißenfels. A few companies of Croats had been added for security. Horse patrols sent ahead soon reported the advance of the Swedes against Weißenfels and soon afterwards it became clear that the main force of the Protestant army under the King's leadership was marching past Weißenfels towards Lützen. Colloredo immediately ordered his 300 men and the old garrison of Weissenfels to march back, the Croats retreated to Rippach in a steady skirmish with the enemy cavalry detachments of the left wing of the Protestants. When crossing the Rippach, the Croatian rearguard was still reached and a Croatian company was broken up, losing its field emblem - a red standard with an imperial eagle on one side and a Fortuna on the other.
