The war memoirs of a German soldier about his experiences on the Eastern Front from 1941 to 1945. The author served with the 17th Panzer Division, which was part of Heinz Guderian's 2nd Panzer Army during Operation "Barbarossa". He took part in the unsuccessful attempts to relieve the 6th Army trapped in Stalingrad (Operation "Winter Storm"), experienced the German retreat through Hungary as a member of the 13th Panzer Division and only narrowly escaped death during the fierce fighting around Budapest in 1945.
