Abraham Lincoln (b. 12 February 1809 near Hodgenville, Hardin County, now LaRue County, Kentucky; Ä 15 April 1865 in Washington, D.C.) served as the 16th Präsident of the United States of America from 1861 to 1865. He was the first from the ranks of the Republican Party and the first to fall victim to an assassination attempt. Elected in 1860, he succeeded in re-election in 1864.
