Teil IX: Feldartillerie, Band 1 und 2 (edited by Hartwig Busche and Jürgen Kraus) About the contents: After the infantry, the field artillery was the second strongest branch of the German army. In addition to the 102 active field artillery regiments existing at the outbreak of the war, a further 196 regiments were formed in the course of the war. Their structure underwent significant changes during the war, especially with the establishment of a third division for each regiment. This often involved the surrender of closed batteries and even the light ammunition columns belonging to the divisions. Furthermore, the Higher Artillery Commanders, the Artillery Generals, the Field Artillery Brigade Commands, the Artillery Commanders and the Special Formations are listed in various chapters. All in all, all the essential data of the organisational history are presented in a clear form, especially on the formation, reorganisation and dissolution, supplemented by information on the garrison or formation locations as well as the unit that provided the replacement in each case. Special emphasis is placed on the subordination relationships. On the basis of the frequently changing subordinations and assignments to foreign units, the deployment of the troops during the war can be traced almost without gaps. Information on demobilisation and disbandment after the end of the war rounds off the account. They are supplemented by exact records of which volunteer formations each regiment formed and in what form it was incorporated into the new Reichswehr in 1919. In two volumes: together approx. 1060 pages.
