This "Visier" special issue presents the most important infantry weapons and equipment of the infantrymen of the 1st World War in words and pictures. It begins with an overview of the causes of the war, alliances and other weapons such as tanks or aircraft, and then devotes individual chapters to infantry weapons from Germany, France, Great Britain, Austria and the USA. Further articles provide information on machine guns, trench daggers and improvised weapons, which represented an important attempt to overcome the inflexibility of trench warfare on the Western Front. As usual, an extensive appendix with addresses of museums, battlefields, re-enactment suppliers and other additional information rounds off the special issue.
