Although the Sturmgeschützabteilung 192 of the German Wehrmacht existed only for a very short time, it was selected because of its special achievements and successes in the first months of the Russian campaign in 1941 and in the wartime winter of 1941/42, together with the soldiers of Sturmgeschützbatterie 640, to form the core personnel for the later Sturmgeschützabteilung of the Panzergrenadierdivision "Großdeutschland". Due to the short time span of Sturmgeschützabteilung 192's existence from November 1940 to April 1942, finding contemporary reports and records proved to be very difficult. Neither diary texts nor archive material could be found. Thus, we had to fall back on the sparse written material that survived the war in private hands. Nevertheless, an interesting pictorial documentation was produced here with over 300 contemporary photographs - most of them to be seen for the first time - showing and documenting the soldiers and the operations of Sturmgeschützabteilung 192.
