In the European context, the 15th century is a century of epochal boundaries. One part is attributed to the Late Middle Ages, the following section to the Early Modern Period. Depending on their focus in the investigations, historians place the border between these two epochs in the middle or the end of the century. Furthermore, the cultural epoch of the Renaissance began in Italy and spread to large parts of Europe in the 16th century.
