General Claude Michel commanded the 3rd Chasseurs a Pied (Hunters on Foot) of the Imperial Guard at Waterloo. During the evening attack by the Guards infantry, the two battalions of this regiment encountered the British Guards (2nd and. 3rd Battalions of the 1st Foot Guards under General Maitland). The British fired a volley which killed Michel. Also killed were the two battalion commanders and up to 200 Guardsmen.
