The book describes how the Piedmontese army resisted the French wave that spread across the entire continent in the wake of the French Revolution from 1792 to 1796. The book shows how Victor Amadeus III of Savoy had to reorganise his army to counter the French threat and describes in detail the often heroic and tenacious resistance of the troops in the high Alpine passes. The Piedmontese units, uniforms, flags and weapons are described and richly illustrated with 29 colour pages of contemporary artwork and plates by Emanuele Manfredi.
