The Battle of Prussian Eylau on 8 February 1807 is probably one of the most dramatic battles of the Napoleonic Wars. Fought under extreme weather conditions with snowstorms and temperatures below freezing, the fierce battle resulted in one of the largest cavalry charges of the Napoleonic Wars.
After a detailed examination of the French and Russian armies and an analysis of their organisation and composition, the work describes the campaigns of Ulm, Austerlitz and Jena 1805-1806, which preceded the Battle of Prussian Eylau, as well as the campaign in Poland up to the battle. Finally, the main part is a detailed account of the Battle of Eylau, based on the evaluation of contemporary documents and reports by protagonists of the battle. The work ends with a brief consideration of the French victory at Friedland four months later, which brought Napoleon I's Polish campaign to a successful conclusion.
