Anton Ludwig Friedrich August Mackensen, from 1899 von Mackensen (* 6 December 1849 in Leipnitz; Ä 8 November 1945 in Burghorn), was a Prussian field marshal. Coming from a bourgeois background, he rose as an officer to the rank of adjutant to Kaiser Wilhelm II and was ennobled by him in 1899. During the First World War he was a successful army commander.
