During the 14 years of the Weimar Republic, there were four chiefs of the army command at the helm of the Reichswehr. The first, Walther Reinhardt, served from the end of the war in 1918 until the Kapp Putsch in 1919. He was succeeded by Hans von Seeckt, whose papers were recently published. He was replaced in 1926 by Wilhelm Heye, who served until 1930. The last chief of the Reichswehr was Kurt von Hammerstein-Equord, who left behind few sources for political reasons. He left office in 1934. This edition offers a selection from the estates of Walther Reinhardt, Wilhelm Heye and Kurt von Hammerstein-Equord, thus completing the picture at the top of the German army from 1918 to 1934.
