In order to save petrol, engines were developed as early as World War II that were powered by burning wood, coal or peat. This method was particularly important for the Wehrmacht due to the increasingly dramatic fuel shortages during the course of the war. This volume presents the vehicles equipped with such an "internal combustion engine". Schematic diagrams show how these engines worked. Excerpts translated into English from German military manuals show how these systems were to be operated.
