A complete documentation of the history of Pennsylvania State Police uniforms and equipment since its founding. The Pennsylvania State Police, the first of its kind in the United States, was established in response to the violent coal miners' strikes of the previous century and has earned an outstanding reputation over the past 120 years. One of the most dangerous positions within the police force, and the first impression the public has of the State Police, is that of the uniformed patrol officer. This presentation provides a visual documentation of patrol officers since 1905, as well as the various pieces of equipment and uniforms used during that time. For the first time, a publication documents the complete history of changes to these patrol officers' uniforms over time, as well as the evolution of patrol work from horses to motorcycles to today's patrol cars, including the use of aircraft to support patrol work. This comprehensive publication on Pennsylvania State Police patrol officers has been meticulously researched and compiled from the photographic and archival collections of various museums, as well as from rare, previously unpublished private collections. Personal stories and memorabilia from retired officers and their families are also included. The work comprises over 1,300 photographs, including special works of art, that meticulously depict Pennsylvania State Police patrol officers since 1905.
