First World War: Hugo Hoppe's postcards to Brotterode. Hugo Hoppe, a young textile merchant from Brotterode, was a soldier in the First World War from 1914 to 1918, first a private, then a non-commissioned officer, finally a sergeant. Immediately before he enlisted - on 2 August 1914 - he had married Bertha Malsch, the daughter of a master buckle smith from Brotterode. He diligently wrote cards and letters to his wife and relatives, including several hundred picture postcards, at first almost daily. They form the basis for this documentation about the war experiences of a young cavalryman from Brotterode. Paperback, many black and white and colour illustrations. 145 pages.
