The author, a Prussian lieutenant general who also served in Hanover, describes his experiences in the period from 1839 to 1866. He describes his entire personal and military career. The climax of his account is the Prussian-Austrian War of 1866, which he experienced in the service of Hanover. At the centre of this section is the Battle of Langensalza, which sealed the end of the Kingdom of Hanover and the Hanoverian army.
