Nurflügler. Built towards the end of the Second World War, the Horten H IX was the logical continuation of the Horten brothers' wing-only concept into the jet age. As with all Horten aircraft, it was a wing-only design. H IX was the designation of the first two prototypes. The Reichsluftfahrtministerium assigned the number 8-229 for series production, 8 being a code number for aircraft in general. In some cases, the designation Gotha Go 229 - is also used after the intended production company Gothaer Waggonfabrik -. In practice, however, the production company was generally irrelevant for the naming. Since the Brüder Horten were not employees of the Gothaer Waggonfabrik company and also officially maintained their own aircraft company - albeit without significant production capacity -, the naming Horten Ho 229 is more likely. This designation was also used in the weekly reports of the Rechlin testing station. -Wikipedia-
