Size 12.5 cm. Phoenix is a genus of 14 palm species native to an area ranging from the Canary Islands in the west, through North and Central Africa to the extreme south-east of Europe (Crete), and continuing throughout southern Asia from Turkey to southern China and Malaysia. The different habitats they occupy include swamps, deserts and mangrove coasts. Most Phoenix species originate from semi-arid regions, but are usually found near high water tables, rivers or springs.
