Napoleon, Resting at the Hospice

(Gr.St.Bernhardt) In May 1800 Napoléon Bonaparte crossed the Alps with his army. The arduous journey took the soldiers over snow-covered passes near the Great St. Bernard and the army reached the Po Valley at the end of May.
Here the scene at the hospice, where Benedictine monks welcomed the First Consul and fed the exhausted soldier.
