Legion riders on the charge -Roman cavalry-

The wealthy noble citizens of Rome served in the cavalry. Each legion was assigned 300 horsemen (equites). They were armed with a long thrusting lance (hasta) and a sword (gladius). Their protection consisted of a round shield (parma equestris) as well as a helmet and chain mail.
Our series shows legionary horsemen on the attack. The individual cavalry divisions attacked in a three-part wedge formation, always headed by the leader (decurion). Next to him rode the bugler, directly behind him the standard bearer.
