Shooting. A trapper (from English trap "trap") is a North American trapper and fur trapper. The term is mainly used for men who were active during the first half of the 19th century during the last peak of the fur trade in North America. The trappers of the Rocky Mountains are referred to as Mountain Men.
Rangers (French coureur des bois or coureur de bois) are the terms used to describe fur traders in North America at the beginning of colonial history. Unlike the large trading companies with their agents and branches, they went out into the country on their own, living with the Indians, hunting with them and trading their furs.
