In the 18th century, timpani virtuosity was in full bloom, as princely court timpanists gave concerts on up to fourteen timpani, still throwing the mallets in the air while beating and catching them again on the beat. Note: the uniform shown is only an example. By painting them in different colours, almost any European uniform can be depicted. The uniforms fit in part. for the following wars: 1727-1729 English-Spanish War 1733-1735 Polish War of Succession 1736-1739 Russo-Austrian Turkish War 1740-1748 Austrian War of Succession 1741-1743 Swedish-Russian War 1754-1763 French and Indian War 1756-1763 Seven Years War 1763-1764 Pontiac Rebellion 1775-1783 American War of Independence 1778-1779 War of the Bavarian Succession
