The Battle of the Alamo was fought from 23 February to 6 March 1836 around the (Fort Alamo), a former Spanish mission station near the (now Texas) town of San Antonio, and is still regarded by many as a symbol of the (heroic (Texas) struggle for freedom). As part of the Texas War of Independence, the battle took place between the Mexican soldiers led by multiple President Antonio López de Santa Anna and the Texas defenders, who were clearly outnumbered in this battle by just over 200 soldiers, led by William Travis and others.
