Between March 1918 and the end of 1920, a multinational force was stationed in the former Russian Empire at the Arctic Circle and in Eastern Siberia, becoming embroiled in the Russian Civil War. American, British, Canadian, Czechoslovakian, French and Japanese troops were deployed as the victorious Allies attempted to intervene in the developing struggle between the Bolsheviks and their opponents. In this book, Phoebus Athanassiou provides an overview of the main operations of the expeditionary forces before discussing the organisation, weapons and equipment of the individual contingents. Eight plates of specially commissioned artwork show what these troops, many of whom were veterans of the First World War, looked like as they lived and fought in the harsh environment of northern Russia.
